Mad River’s 12th is among the most challenging holes on the course. Tall pines and a rough covered hillside line the right side of the landing area. The left side of the fairway is punctuated by three long but randomly spaced bunkers, while the pull-hook will find the water hazards and wetlands that line the entire left side of the hole.
The bold tee shot is to the left side, where the fairway is flatest. The mid- to long-iron approach requires great precision to hit and hold the elevated green. While generous in size, the green presents the player with large cutouts front left and right, and back left, that will gather the mishit shot down a steep slope into thick rough.
